Barbie now has her very own Maserati

Since mid-2022, Barbiecore has been taking the fashion world by storm. That’s to say, celebrities have been outdoing one another with the most pink, most over-the-top outfits they can get their hands on. It’s all part of the lead-up to Barbie: The Movie, set for release in 2023.

The latest brand to jump on the trend is Maserati. The Italian luxury car maker has gone straight to the source, by teaming up with Mattel to create a Barbie Maserati Grecale Trofeo SUV.

Pinker than pink

As you might imagine, Barbie Maserati’s most notable feature is its extremely pink exterior. It’s been taken next level with a luminous topcoat, which transforms into a rainbow in the sunshine. Thin lines of acid yellow pay tribute to Maserati’s racing heritage.

Meanwhile, the interior is decked in black and splashed with pink accents—from the rows of stitching on the leather seats to the metal trims. Headrests feature ‘B’ monograms.

Plenty of girl power

Powering the engine is a 530-hp V6-Nettuno engine, introduced in August this year in Maserati’s MC20 Cielo. It’s based on Formula One technology and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.8 seconds.

Part of the Fuoriserie program

Barbie Maserati was created as part of the Fuoriserie program. It allows you to design your own Maserati, by choosing from ‘old school’ and ‘future’ models, as well as paints, liveries and dreamlines, and accents on the brakes and wheels.

As limited edition as it gets

There are plans to build only two Barbie Maseratis.

The first was unveiled in Los Angeles on 26th October as one of Neiman Marcus’s eight Fantasy Gifts for 2022. Its current price tag is $330,000. 10% will go to the Barbie Dream Gap Project, which partners with charities to promote equal opportunities for girls all over the world.

The next is due for release in 2023.
